School Band

School Band

In the last number of years, we have established a school band in St. Mark's. About twenty children are involved in the band and play a variety of instruments, including pianos, guitars, tin whistles and cajon. The children have learned a wide selection of songs and it is a great way for the boys and girls of St. Mark's to showcase their musical talents.

The children practice once a week and more regularly if there is a performance or special event planned. The band perform at many school occasions including Confirmation, Christmas Concerts and they have also played at the Annual Corfhéile in the National Basketball Arena.

Tin whistle is taught in each class, as part of the music curriculum and any children who play other musical instruments would be more than welcome to audition for the band at any stage of the school year.

Events:

  • Christmas Concert
  • Corfhéile: The band performed three pieces and received great reviews on the night. They performed: Will ye Go Lassie Go/ Roddy McCorley; Inisheer, Terry Teahan's/ Kerry Polka.
  • The band recently played for the launch of the VR in the school hall.
